A handheld marking unit is shown with which one can mark cables with their identity directly when reading the identity from a cable list. The marking unit comprises a through channel (17) for the cable. Which can be opened and has a device (4, 9, 10) for arresting the cable ; a keyboard (13) for typing a marking identity ; a display (14) for displaying the identity ; and a marking unit (15) fixed in the channel (17) for marking directly on the cable surface the identity shown in the display. |
