The mid-joint coupling consists of a first tube (14) and a second tube (18) the first tube consists of a male element (12) formed on its end and a projection (22) formed at a given distance from its end. Grooves (24) are machined on its periphery for the fitting of O'-ring seals (26). The second tube (18) consists of a female body (16) formed at its end and a shoulder (29) formed at a given distance from its end. Prior to assembly, a sleeve (10) with inward facing tongues (34) is slid over the end of one piece and when the two pieces are joined the tongues (34) of the sleeve engage behind the shoulders (22,29) of the pieces to hold the joint together. Independent claims are also included for (a) the coupling method, (b) sleeve, and for (c) method for establishing mid-joint fluid path. |
