The rapid coupling system for a hydraulic system comprises a series of valves (1) which seal hydraulic power circuits. These connect with a second series of valves (2) which seal the circuits of a device using the hydraulic power. When disconnected, each of the first series of valves is biased to seal a pressure chamber. Each pressure chamber is separated from a common connecting channel (15) by a balancing valve (14) which opens automatically when the pressure in the connecting channel exceeds that in the pressure chamber. Additional devices are fitted for controlled opening of individual balancing valves if the pressure in the associated pressure chamber falls.
