A procedure for controlling the operation of at least one auxiliary aggregate of an IC engine that is driven by the engine via a gearbox with variable transmission ratio, is described. The gearbox is controlled so that a certain drive torque is not exceeded. The auxiliary aggregates are controlled so that a certain drive torque is not exceeded. The certain drive torque depends on at least one operating parameter of the engine. The drive device for auxiliary aggregates of an IC engine contains a gearbox with variable transmission ratio whose drive shaft is driven by the engine and whose output shaft drives the auxiliary aggregates, plus a control apparatus to control the transmission ratio of the gearbox.
