The unit has a guide rail (2), shaped symmetrically to its longitudinal axis, on which a carriage (1) runs in bearings. The carriage has dampers symmetrically disposed to the longitudinal axis of the guide rail. The carriage has at last two dampers and pref. four, with one upper (4) and one lower (3) damper on each side of the rail. A hydraulic system feeds the dampers collectively. In each damper the hydraulic piston acts on an elastically deformable strip which in turn acts on the guide rail. The hydraulic force can be varied to provide clamping or damping.
