A hydraulic continuously variable transmission (1 or 2) with a body housing (3) having, therein, a hydraulic servo mechanism (6) with a spool (72) as a hydraulic valve to control a swash plate angle and having, thereon, a manual operating member (20) to operate the hydraulic servo mechanism, wherein a casing (33) is provided between the manual operating member and the body housing, a neutral position holding mechanism (11) for holding the neutral position of a movable swash plate and a rotation control mechanism (34d) controlling the maximum rotating angle of the movable swash plate are installed in the casing, over stroke absorbing mechanisms (27, 40) absorbing the over stroke of the manual operation member are installed in an area ranging from the inside of the casing to the inside of the body housing, and a spool operating member (41) moved by the operation of the manual operating member is disposed movably and generally integral with the spool.
