<p>An inflatable bag for arresting the flow of a liquid such as water within a pipeline carrying and a method for arresting such a liquid flow are disclosed. The inflatable bag (2) consists of an inner flexible bladder (6), at least one outer flexible bag (4), and a spine assembly (8) passing through the centre of the inner bladder (6). The spine assembly (8) has a first blind end (10) and an open end (11) communicating with an inflation/deflation means and is provided with a number of apertures (16) inside the bladder (6) through which an inflating medium passes. The outer bag is constructed from a plurality of pieces of material joined together in simply overlapping regions by being at least doubly stitched through both pieces of material of the said plurality of pieces which form the overlap thus forming a shear joint (30) as opposed to the conventional butt joint.</p> |
