The data protected transmission method uses transfer of identification characters between subscribers coupled to a public data transmission network (4), with coding of the identification characters at the transmitting subscriber via a public key and decoding via a private key at the receiving subscriber, before transmission back to the original subscriber. The re-transmitted identification characters are decoded via the public key for obtaining the private key, with subsequent transmission of the data protected by coding with the private key.
