The power supply provides power to two synchronous linear motors. A power converter (UREc,a,b) is provided respectively for tracks (7) in a track-changing region, and tracks (1,4) in a drive region (ABE 0a, ABE 0b). Each power converter can be switched by a safety switch (S5, S2,S4), controlled by process controllers, onto the first drive side of the track(s) (7,1,4), and by further switches (S11,S12) onto the first drive side of the other track(s). The power converter in the track-changing region may be arranged on the second drive side of the track, instead of the first side, and switched onto the second drive side of the other tracks via switches (S14,S15).
