The transmission belt for use in continuously variable transmissions, e.g. a pulley drive, comprises cables (3) made of fiber-reinforced polymer or metal. These act as tensioning components for belts which are fitted with pressure plates (1, 2). Both the top of the belt loop and the bottom therefore contribute to the drive as it passes over the pulleys. The belt is manufactured as a strip whose ends are then fastened together with a connector (4, 7). An Independent claim is included for a mounting system for the belt.
