The printer has at least one roller (1) and at least two functional elements (4,5,6) which execute cyclical movements in synchronization with a rotary movement of the roller, and which are driven with the roller by a drive unit. Each functional element has a spring element (15,21) tightened in one phase of the cyclical movement, and slackened during another phase of the cyclical movement,. The cyclical movement of each functional element is coupled by means of a cam disc (7,9,18) with the roller's rotary movement. The first functional element is a sheet-gripper (5) mounted on a feeder cylinder (2).
