A displacement tube is driven into the ground, filled with material, and then withdrawn, so that the filler material exits from the lower tube end against the wall of the bore hole. The tube is withdrawn in several stages, and after every stage, the material is further compressed by driving-in the tube. The appliance to carry out the process has a displacement tube (6) with a guide part located in the tube near its outlet (10). The guide part has a pivoted flap arrangement. The tube outlet is connected to a foot plate (11) for driving-in the tube. The top of the tube is connected to a filler funnel (9).
