A vehicle friction clutch comprises pressure plate 13 within casing 12 and pressed against friction linings 17 by spring 20 via a wear adjuster comprising two oppositely biassed 34 ramped rings 29 (28), 30. As the linings wear the rings rotate relatively causing adjuster axial enlargement. The clutch has a continuous wear indicator e.g.: toothed wheel 62 for repositioning a ring after lining replacement engaging and rotating with its ring and having a pointer (72 Fig 4) on its driving bolt 66; an elongated casing aperture (80a Fig. 5) and ring markings which align after given wear and; a centrifugally radially biassed slider (92b Fig. 7) in a radial recess (90b) beneath a ring and having a lug (98) engaging a radial inside of the ring which may be radially ramped or slotted at a position corresponding to maximum permissible wear; electrical contact or optical scanning. |
