PURPOSE:To provide an attenuator for an optical fiber which is stable in attenuation quantity against ambient temperature variation, variation in input light wavelength, and the attachment and detachment of a connector. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber 13 which is coupled with input/output fibers 1 and 2, compatible as waveguide structure with them, and formed of an attenuating medium is used. The loss of coupling with the input/output fibers 1 and 2 is reduced and the internal coupling loss is eliminated, so the attenuation quantity is determined by only characteristics of the attenuating optical fiber 13, so that the stable attenuator can easily be constituted. |
