PURPOSE: A refrigerator is provided to defrost an evaporator by shutting off cool air from a refrigerating compartment to the evaporator, and to cool the refrigerating compartment by contacting air from a freezer compartment indirectly with circulating air from the freezer compartment in the evaporator. CONSTITUTION: A refrigerator is composed of a freezer compartment(2) installed in the upper part of a body; a refrigerating compartment(3) installed in the lower part; a barrier(5) placed between the freezer compartment and the refrigerating compartment to flow air from the freezer compartment; a duct heat exchanger(7) connected to the barrier and, installed in the rear part of the refrigerating compartment for heat exchange between cool air of the freezer compartment and air from the refrigerating compartment by indirectly contacting; an evaporator(6) mounted in the rear part of the freezer compartment to cool air from the heat exchanger; and a freezer compartment fan(14) installed in the upper part of the evaporator to move air. The evaporator is defrosted with moving air from the freezer compartment through the heat exchanger. Food is conserved in the refrigerator for a long time with keeping humidity properly.
