An automated teller machine is provided to read a bar code printed on documents even when plural documents having different sizes and locations of the printed bar code exist. An automated teller machine includes a bar code reading guide(8) and a bar code reader(7). The automated teller machine displays a screen for guiding the operation of a customer. The automated teller machine has a customer operation display panel(2) to receive the input operation of the customer. The automated teller machine performs the transaction according to the information inputted by the customer. The bar code reading guide is arranged around the customer operation display panel to guide a document inputted by the operation of the customer. The bar code reader reads the bar code printed on the document guided by the bar code reading guide.
