The charging device has plug and socket housings (1), provided with cooperating main electrical contacts (16) and pilot contacts (17). The pilot contacts are pre-positioned within a plug-in cassette, which is then inserted in a reception recess of the plug or socket housing and secured by cooperating ratchet elements.
