The identity card (1) contains at least one layer (7) which is suitable for lettering. Information is written into this laye using a laser beam. The information is made irreversibly visible by changes of the optical properties effected by the laser beam The layer to be lettered is a lacquer layer in which additives, which are absorbent for the wavelengths of the laser writer introduced.
