Shape adaptive transform coding of image data

The circuit uses transformation coefficients correlated with orthonormal base functions for transformation coding of digital image signals. The image elements are obtained from the segment-adaptive two-dimensional orthonormal transformation arranged in blocks of variable size. The circuit has a separator (100) for the DC and AC components of the image elements. A transformer (200) for the AC components and a parallel scaling stage (300) for the DC components, followed by a multiplexer (400) are provided.
