A competitive inhibitor of HMG-CoA(3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A) reductase is provided to inhibit synthesis of cholesterol by inhibiting activity of HMG-CoA reductase, so that the compound is useful for treatment of cardiac and cardiovascular diseases caused by hypercholesterol. A peptide for competitively inhibiting the activity of HMG-CoA reductase has the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:1, SEQ ID NO:2, SEQ ID NO:3 or SEQ ID NO:4. A competitive inhibitor for HMG-CoA reductase contains the peptide of SEQ ID NO:1, SEQ ID NO:2, SEQ ID NO:3 or SEQ ID NO:4. A therapeutic drug of cardiac and cardiovascular disease caused by hypercholesterol selected from hyperlipidemia, arteriosclerosis, hypertension, myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, cerebral apoplexy, cerebral hemorrhage and peripheral vascular disease contains the peptide of SEQ ID NO:1, SEQ ID NO:2, SEQ ID NO:3 or SEQ ID NO:4.
