PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a simplified protein by setting several regions in the amino acid sequence of a protein, partly substituting the amino acid residues, selecting functional proteins from the modified proteins, followed by further substituting amino acid residues. SOLUTION: To obtain a simplified protein whose kinds of amino acid residue are reduced and which retains its original function by (1) setting several regions in the amino acid sequence of a protein, substituting one amino acid residue or more in a region to give modified proteins whose kinds of amino acid residues existing in the regions are reduces, (2) selecting modified proteins having the original function from the modified proteins, followed by repeating the procedure comprising step 1 and 2. |
