PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance response by quickly building up the magnetic flux by reducing the sum of the loss by leaked magnetic flux and eddy current. SOLUTION: An electromagnetic actuator 1 is composed of a first core 2, a fourth core 4 made in prismatic form, a needle 20, etc. Hereby, the working are of the needle becomes large, and the efficiency rises. Substantially the entire circumferences of the first coil 10 and the second coil 11a wound on the first core 2 and the second core 4 are covered with the first core 2 and the fourth core 4. Moreover, slits 3 are made at the angles of the first core 2 and the fourth core 4. Hereby, the leaked magnetic flux loss and the eddy current loss of the first core 2 and the second core 4 are decreased, and the response is improved. Furthermore, a slit is made at the angle of the needle 20. Hereby, the eddy current loss of the needle is decreased, and the response is improved.
