TRAFFIC SHAPER FOR MAINTENANCE CELL WITHOUT CAUSING EITHER OF JITTER OR DELAY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a traffic shaper for a maintenance cell without causing either a jitter or delay. SOLUTION: A traffic shaper 121 is provided for the F5 maintenance cell of an ATMCBR virtual circuit. Two queues of a first queue for enqueuing a CBR traffic cell and a second queue 132 for enqueuing the maintenance cell are assigned to each virtual circuit. A bandwidth which is twice as large as a normal one is assigned onto a transmission medium in each virtual circuit. A dequeue state machine 140 transmits the contents of each first queue by a transmission rate which is twice as fast as a normal one in a half of each normal transmitting interval of a corresponding virtual circuit of a queue and transmits the content of each second queue by a transmission rate which is twice as fast as a normal one in the reraining half period of each normal transmitting interval of the corresponding virtual circuit of the queue.
