PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reliably remove the foreign matter stuck on the peripheral surfaces of rolls neither too much nor too little during operation of a twin roll type continuous caster by controlling brushing force in proportion to roll rotating speed changed in accordance with the contamination on the peripheral surfaces of the rolls. SOLUTION: During operation of the twin roll type continuous caster for producing a thin cast slab with one pair of cooling rolls 1a, 1b rotatated in mutually reverse directions, a brush roll 12 is pushed against the peripheral surfaces of one pair of cooling rolls 1a, 1b to brush the peripheral surfaces of the rolls. In this method, firstly, the gap between the rolls is controlled so that the pushing force (roll reaction force) of the cooling roll 1a against the cooling roll 1b side becomes a target value, and the roll rotating speed is controlled so that the roll gap becomes a target value. Further, the brushing force of the brush roll is controlled in proportion to the roll rotating speed. Then, when the reduction rate of the roll rotating speed exceeds 15%, the brushing force of the brush roll is controlled.
