PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a portable terminal to acquire a video image at a remote place required by a user through a simple system configuration. SOLUTION: In an image pickup system adopting this control method, a portable telephone 1, a video camera 11, and a server device 21 re interconnected via network 1000. The portable telephone 1 outputs a control signal to control an oscillating mechanism and a zoom mechanism of the video camera 11 by having a user operate the portable telephone 1 to adjust a photographing range of the video camera 11 and to display a required video image on a display device in real time. Moreover, the portable telephone 1 captures and displays a desired video image as a still image.
