PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric reel prevented from careless overreeling of a fishline when the maximally allowable quantity of the fishline is automatically newly reeled on the spool through driving a motor. SOLUTION: This electric reel for fishing use has a spool motor, a spool 9 revolution detective means, a means for determining the reeled diameter of a fishline 23 through receiving the receive wave of ultrasonic waves emitted on the fishline reeled face 31 of the spool 9, a means for determining fishline length based on the reeled diameter afforded by the above means and the revolutions of the spool 9 detected by the relevant means, a memory means for storing the maximum reeled diameter of a fishline 23 defined by the shape of the spool 9, and a motor halting means for automatically halting the motor at a point when a specified quantity of a fishline 23 is reeled through comparing the above-measured reeled diameter with the maximum reeled diameter when the fishline is newly reeled on the spool 9 by driving the motor.
