<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To certainly regenerate a catalyst while suppressing deterioration in fuel consumption to the minimum extent regardless of the driving inclination of a driver and conditions of a road. SOLUTION: The purifying condition of a catalytic device which is arranged in the exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine and purifies harmful materials in exhaust gas is detected or estimated by a condition detecting means (step S120), the operation condition of the internal combustion engine is changed by a desired time TL0 by a regenerating means based on the detected or estimated purifying condition of the catalytic device, and purifying ability lowering materials stuck to the catalytic device are released so as to recover the purifying capability of the catalytic device (step S170). In the case that the discharge of the purifying capability lowering materials is not completed after the operation of the regenerating means is finished, the operation condition of the regenerating means is changed by an operation condition changing means to a specific operation condition (VAVE>=Vb) which is adapted for discharging the purifying capability lowering materials, and the purifying capability lowering materials are released under the specific operation conditions (step S250).</p> |
