A non-crystalline cefuroxime axetil solid dispersant is prepared by suspending crystalline cefuroxime axetil, a surfactant and a water-insoluble inorganic carrier in an organic solvent and drying the resulting suspension to remove the inorganic solvent, said solid dispersant having an improved bioavailability and stability of cefuroxime axetil and being useful for the preparation of a pharmaceutical composition for oral administration.
