CARBONIZATION TREATMENT OF SLUDGE AND APPARATUS THEREFOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an activated carbon having high adsorption performance from sludge using a flash dryer and an activating carbonization furnace and thermall decompose the malodor by introducing the exhaust gas of the flash dryer into the activating carbonization furnace. SOLUTION: A circulating dried sludge is mixed with a dehydrated sludge cake and the mixture is crushed and dried with a disintegrater 20. The dried sludge is further dried with a gas flow drying pipe 22, the gas flow containing the dried sludge is separated into solid and gas by a cyclone 24, the most part of the dried sludge is used as the circulating dried sludge and the remaining part is carbonized and activated by an activating carbonization furnace 32 to obtain activated carbon. A part of drying exhaust gas discharged from the cyclone 24 is heated by the heat-exchange with the exhaust gas of the activating carbonization furnace 32 and the heated gas is supplied to the disintegrater 20. The exhaust gas of the activating carbonization furnace 32 heat-exchanged with apart of the dried exhaust gas of the cyclone 24 is exhausted and the remaining part of the dried exhaust gas from the cyclone 24 is supplied to and washed by a water scrubber 60. The washed gas is dehumidified and introduced into the activating carbonization furnace 32 to effect the thermal decomposition of the malodor component of the gas.
