PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic focusing device, employing a multi-board type image pickup element that can attain focusing at high-speed using a simple configuration. SOLUTION: This automatic focusing device is provided with a color separation prism 103, that separates an object light via a focusing lens 101 into R, G, B, black/white image sensors 104A, B, C where an AF area is set to a middle part of an image pickup area and that receive each color component to convert it into image data, a distance direction calculation section 111 that calculates blurring characteristics information of image data in each AF area of the black/ white image sensors 104A, B, C, which are arranged with a different light receiving distance by each color and estimates a direction at a focal point and a distance up to the focal point on the blurring characteristics information of each color, and a focus adjustment driver 112 that discriminates whether the focus is matched on the basis of the distance at the focal point and moves the focusing lens 101 up to the focal point an presumed focusing direction, when discriminated that it is out of focus. |
