PURPOSE: A device and a method for controlling the overcurrent of a single phase switched reluctance motor are provided to prevent the overcurrent by driving the single phase switched reluctance motor according to a pulse width table which can accomplish the maximum torque. CONSTITUTION: A sensor(20) detects the rotational speed of a single phase switched reluctance motor(10). A driving section(50) supplies the DC power source according to a predetermined driving pulse, and drives the single phase switched reluctance motor(10). A controlling section(40) calculates the rotational speed of the single phase switched reluctance motor(10) according to the output of the sensor(20). The controlling section(40) controls the driving section(50) so that the driving pulse having the width corresponding to the rotational speed in the stored rotational speed driving pulse width table.
