PURPOSE: The method for updating a stored program in an information terminal is provided to easily recover and update the program using a single memory via a network such as a telephone line or the internet even though an expected environment is generated. CONSTITUTION: The latest program is searched and downloaded, and it is determined if a user terminal is updated(S1). When an update operation is executed, the downloaded program is stored in the slave program area in a memory(S2). The updated program is performed by an execution program in a bootstrap loader(S3). The program information, stored in a configuration table, is searched(S4). The latest program or the program determined by a user is selected(S5). The cyclic redundancy code(CRC) of the selected program is calculated(S6), and thereby the error in the program is checked(S7). If the error is generated, the selected program is executed using the program previously stored in a master program area(S9). If the error is not generated, the latest program stored in a slave program area is executed(S8).
