PURPOSE: A shell tube type filter and an automatic control system are provided to filtrate impurity easily and to control the starting of a waste heat recovery system by having simple structure for washing the filter automatically. CONSTITUTION: A shell tube type filter(130) includes a thick plate body having a considerable thickness or height, and plural tubular cylindrical holes(131) vertically penetrated to a lower face(130B) from an upper face(130S). The shell tube type filter prevents thin and long impurities including hairs or thread from getting tangled with other thread when the impurities are introduced into the cylindrical holes of the filter. Thus, the impurities are removed easily. An automatic control system for recovering waste heat consists of a primary filter(100), a secondary filter, an eddy tub and a heat exchanger. The components are connected each other by pipes. Each component includes inlet/outlet ports for waste hot water and washing water, and automatic control valves(V1-V4,DV) on each discharge pipe. Therefore, the system is controlled automatically.
