PURPOSE: An optical pickup device is provided to detect relative inclination between an object lens and a recording medium without using a separate tilt sensor. CONSTITUTION: An optical pickup device includes an optical path converting instrument(50), an object lens(70) concentrating incidence beam on a recording medium(30), a main optical detector(81) receiving the incidence beam for detecting information signal and/or error signal, and an inclination detect instrument(83) receiving the beam reflected from a protecting layer(33) for detecting inclination of the recording medium. Herein, inclination of the recording medium is detected by detecting the beam reflected from surface(33a) of protecting layer or a recording surface(31) of the recording medium. Therefore, relative inclination between the object lens and the recording medium is detected regardless of size of inclination.
