<p>PURPOSE: An image compression device adaptive to a network band width is provided so that quality of an image can be improved and a band width can be maximally used, by compressing and transmitting an image data in a real time. CONSTITUTION: A quantizer(210) quantizes an input image data into a predetermined quantization value. A transmitter(220) buffers the image data from the quantizer(210), and transmits the buffered data. A complicity predictor(250) predicts complicity from preceding input frames. In addition, a controller(240) adaptively decides a quantization value of the quantizer(210) within the range of the network band width, by receiving a data buffering amount of the transmitter(220), a complicity value presumed in the complicity predictor(250), and band width information allocated from the network. Here, the controller(240) decides the quantization value by equalizing the data buffering amount of the transmitter(220) to a predetermined object value. Accordingly, image quality can be improved in the data transmission. In addition, the band width can be maximally used. Moreover, the image data can be compressed and transmitted in the real time. That is, the image compression device is adaptive to variations of the band width due to time, and thus suitable for image transmission through the internet.</p> |
