PURPOSE: A method of controlling an intelligent track pitch in a magnetic disk drive is provided to detect variations between a target track position and a present track position in a track seek mode, to update the detected variation amounts every servo interrupt, and to control a swing level gain according to each zone track in a track following mode, to make a head be in an 'on-track' state. CONSTITUTION: A micro processor outputs a control input value calculated in a previous sampling section of a present sampling section, and applies a current to a VCM(Voice Coil Motor)(300). The micro processor reads an ID of a present track through a head to calculate a position of the present track(302, 304). The micro processor subtracts the present track from a target track to calculate a variation amount(306). The micro processor calculates an update variation in accordance with each zone variation value and an output profile(308, 310). The micro processor controls a gain of the calculated output profile, and outputs a control input value for a next sampling section, to move the head to the target track.
