PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for automatically controlling a ringer tone of a mobile communication terminal is provided to minimize noise due to a ringer tone of a mobile communication terminal by automatically turning down or off the ringer tone in case that a user takes the terminal out of his bag or pocket when the ringer is generated due to the destination of a call. CONSTITUTION: A transmitting/receiving interface unit(1) interfaces transmitting and receiving signals transmitted and received through an antenna(ANT). A receiving unit(2) receives a signal supplied through the antenna(ANT) and the transmitting/receiving interface unit(1). A transmitting unit(4) transmits a signal supplied through the transmitting/receiving interface unit(1) and the antenna(ANT). A frequency synthesizing unit(3) generates a frequency for transmitting and receiving according to the control of a control unit(5) and supplies it to the receiving unit(2) and the transmitting unit(4). A memory unit(6) stores a program and data necessary for communications. A flip detection unit(7) detects the open and close of the flip. A key input unit(9) supplies various kinds of key commands to the control unit(5). A ringer tone processing unit(8) controls a ringer tone outputted to a buzzer. A voice processing unit(10) processes call speech inputted and outputted through a microphone and a speaker. An exposure detection unit(20), according to an interrupt enable signal supplied from a port(P2) of the control unit(5), detects whether the mobile communication terminal is taken out of a user's bag or pocket and exposed to the external.
