PURPOSE: An apparatus for reducing water consumption is provided, in which water supply is controlled by stepping on an open/shut-off valve, to thereby achieve an improved economy in water consumption. CONSTITUTION: An open/shut-off valve elastically supported by a coil spring(8) is connected to one of a tap water and shower water supply valve or a show water exclusive valve. An upper valve support(2) and a lower valve support(4) are coupled to form a water supply gap(9). An open/shut-off valve(5) with a water leakage preventing O-ring(17) penetrates valve open/shut-off holes(1,3) formed at upper and lower valve supports(2,4), respectively. A support plate(6) with a water inlet groove(6') and the coil spring are mounted to be supported by a cylinder(7). The water inlet groove of the support plate is communicated with a water inlet hole(24') formed between the upper valve support and the support plate, and connected to an outer inlet pipe(25). The water supply gap between upper and lower valve supports is communicated with a water outlet hole(26') formed between the upper valve support and the support plate, and connected to a water discharge pipe(27). The upper valve support and the support plate are coupled through bolts(20). A valve fixing plate(10) is mounted onto the center of the open/shut-off valve, and a ball bearing(18) positioned at the end of a bolt(13) is arranged to move in the vertical direction within a hole(12) having a larger diameter than the diameter of the bolt. The support plate of the lower valve support is mounted to a groove of a base plate(14), and a coil spring(15) is inserted into spring grooves(22') formed on the bottom and upper surfaces of the valve fixing plate and the base plate. Then, the base plate and the support plate are coupled via bolts, and a rubber cover(19) is mounted onto the valve fixing plate.
