PURPOSE: An air purge method for a gas heater is provided to safely and quickly exhaust the air flowed in a pipeline. CONSTITUTION: A gas heater comprises a burner(20) spraying a mixed air mixed by a gas and air at an equal rate in a combustion chamber and burning; a combustion fan(21) supplying air to the burner; an ignition transformer(22) igniting the mixed air; a gas valve(24) regulating the gas amount supplied to the burner; a flame detect unit(25) detecting a flame generated during the combustion process and outputting a relative signal; a control unit(26) controlling the driving of the combustion fan, the ignition transformer, and the gas valve and outputting an assumed flame detect signal based on the air purge order; a detect unit(27) detecting the wrong operation of the control unit; a gas valve driving unit(28) opening the gas valve as the flame detect signal and the driving signal of the gas valve are input. An air purge order is input. The control unit recognizes the order and supplies the gas valve-driving signal and an assumed flame detect signal to the gas valve-driving unit for a first established time. Thus, the gas valve is open for a specific time and the remaining air in the pipeline is exhausted to outside by driving the combustion fan. The control unit stops the flame detect signal output after the first established time and closes the gas valve. The combustion fan is driven for a second established time and the remaining gas in the combustion chamber is exhausted to outside.
