PURPOSE: A vegetable compartment is provided to keep vegetables fresh for a long time by supplying the proper amount of cold air depending on the amount of vegetables kept in a vegetable compartment tray. CONSTITUTION: A vegetable compartment consists of: a vegetable compartment tray(12) accepted in a vegetable compartment(10) formed on the lower portion of a refrigeration compartment(4) of a refrigerator; a partition plate(14) mounted in the refrigeration compartment to cover the vegetable compartment tray; and an elastic member(20) positioned between the lower face of the vegetable compartment tray and the upper face of the vegetable compartment. The elastic member is used with a leaf spring. A gasket(15) is provided on the upper face of the vegetable compartment to keep internal/external airtightness of the vegetable compartment tray. If a large amount of food is kept in the vegetable compartment tray, the elastic member is compressed by a load(L). A clearance(C) is formed between the vegetable compartment tray and the partition plate to supply cold air directly. On the contrary, the vegetable compartment tray is cooled indirectly when a small amount of food is kept therein.
