PURPOSE: A longitudinally arranged CVT(continuously variable transmission) for a vehicle is provided to achieve a mechanism easy in a forward and backward movement by constituting a screw gear instead of a planetary gear set. CONSTITUTION: A chain gear member(51) is installed to have an output shaft gear and transmit backward power in rotation of a driving shaft(S) by selective combining of a first friction element(54). A pulley member(52) is installed to transmit forward power from the driving shaft to a slave shaft(P) through a metal belt(63) by selective combining of a second friction element(62) installed the driving shaft. A hypoid gear(70) is installed to an output shaft(56) taking power to secure space of an engine room. The hypoid gear makes the power transmitted by the pulley member and the chain gear member longitudinally arranged at a transmission and output performed. Therefore backing can be easily performed without a planetary gear set and the cost is reduced.
