The method involves measuring a reference temp. on or near the friction surface, simultaneously deriving an image of the temp. distribution on the surface during a rotation, selecting a reference point outside discontinuity areas detected in the surface with anomalous emission values, determining the reference point's emission value, associating it with the corresp. temp. value and using this to derive the temp. distribution.
