PURPOSE: An apparatus for controlling operation of magnetic leakage transformer is provided to prevent flickering and control the illumination of lamp with accuracy, while improving luminous efficiency. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus comprises a DC rectifier unit(10) for rectifying the input AC voltage and outputting DC voltage; a filter unit(20) for filtering DC voltage output from the DC rectifier unit; an illumination sensor unit(30) for sensing the level of illumination of the lamp; a voltage control unit(40) for controlling DC voltage level in accordance with the level of illumination of the lamp sensed by the illumination sensor unit; a constant voltage adjustment unit(50) for adjusting the DC voltage filtered by the filter unit into a constant voltage of a predetermined level in accordance with the control of the voltage control unit, and outputting the adjusted constant voltage; an inverter unit(60) for converting the DC voltage which is adjusted, by the constant voltage adjustment unit, into the constant voltage into a square wave signal having a frequency of a predetermined level; an automatic frequency control unit(70) for maintaining the frequency of the square wave signal constant regardless of the lighting of lamp; and a magnetic leakage transformer unit(80) for transforming the square wave signal into a high voltage needed for lighting the lamp.
