A needle selection structure consists of a computer-controlled needle selection unit disposed on a cover plate above a needle dial. The selection unit comprises a set of selection jacks driven by a needle selector. The needle selection structure includes (a) a computer-controlled needle selection unit (6) disposed on a cover plate (5) above a needle dial (1), comprising a set of selection jacks (62) driven by a needle selector (61); and (b) a cap disposed below the cover plate, comprising a guide track for moving the jacks and a sloping return section for guiding the jacks back to the cap. The needle selection unit is controlled by an external computer.
