A SCP (110) receives a query from a service switching point (SSP, Region A1, A2, B1, C1) and accesses data in a database in response to the query. The accessed data is associated with a data owner. The SCP (110) tracks the SSP (Region A1, A2, B1, C1) which sent the query and the data owner's data which was accessed in response to the query. After a plurality of queries have been received and tracked, the SCP (110) creates a billing record and sends it to a billing center (130). Using the billing record, the billing center (130) can charge the SSP (Region A1, A2, B1, C1) for the use of the SCP (110). The preferred embodiments provide an efficient way for charging for the usage of a SCP (110), especially when the SSP (Region A1, A2, B1, C1) querying the SCP (110) is owned by a different telecommunications company.
|
