The propagation time equalisation method transmits repetitive pulses from each transceiver (T) to a central station (Z) used to provide respective echo pulses fed back to the transceiver, e.g. via a flip-flop (MF). The received echo pulses are compared with a reference signal via a measuring stage (MW) within the transceiver. The delay element (VZ) in the transceiver pulse signal path is adjusted until the echo signals and the reference signal are coincident.
