To provide synchronous electric machines with the characteristic of DC-machines, during standstill the magnetic fields of two mutually independent windings which are each controlled by an inverter with both windings thus controlled by a microcomputer with vector orientation, the magnetic fields overlapping or almost overlapping to give a narrow field-pole. The phase-angles of the magnetic field are continually matched to the optimal running conditions, depending on the operating condition of the electric machine.
