<p>The present invention involves a new method for the transformation and regeneration of transgenic plants using either high velocity microprojectiles or Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. The method of the invention does not proceed through the callus stage, thus decreasing the time needed to obtain a transformed plant and reducing the risk of somaclonal variation due to mutations accumulating in the callus during extended culture time. The method is applicable to all plants and allows the use of tissues such as cotyledons, epicotyls, leaves and hypocotyls as explant material.</p> |
