A rubber composition (I) comprises: (A) 50-90 pts.wt. of a diene rubber; and (B) 10-50 pts.wt. of a rubber gel (to a total amount of 100 pts.wt. ) having a toluene swelling index of 16-150. An Independent claim is included for a process for the production of the rubber composition (I) by mixing 100 pts.wt. combined of (A) and (B), whereby the glass transition temperature of (A) is at least 10 deg C lower than that of (B), with 30-120 pts.wt. of a filler by mixing (A) with at least 80 wt.% of the filler at at least 135 deg C followed by the addition of (B) and the remaining filler.
