The proposed method is for use with salt containing industrial waste water which may also contain inorganic metal salts and/or colloidal impurities and/or solvents. First the large suspended particles are removed by pre-filtration. Then, colloidal impurities are removed by fine filtration, preferably by ultra- or nano-filter, at 2-10 bars pressure. The filtrate is then routed through a multi-stage reverse osmosis process, with concentrate and permeate being recycled. The volumetric ratio of permeate is set to a minimum of 60%. The first stage of reverse osmosis is carried out at 20-50 bars, the second stage concentration at 40-80 bars pressure. The permeate treatment operates at 10-30 bars pressure. |
